IS IT TRUE? It's true! What goes around comes around! That's what the Apostle Paul said, among other things, in these verses, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers," (Galatians 6:7-10 NIV). It can be tiring doing good all the time, especially when people don't appear to appreciate it, and it seems nothing good comes from our actions.
But God's encouragement to us is to keep doing good because God's intended harvest from our actions will occur on God's timetable not necessarily ours. In fact we may never see the harvest of our good actions in this life but one day in eternity we will see the results and rejoice. God's Word is sure and the harvest will follow. And when it comes to doing good we should attempt to help all those we can but our focus should be especially on those who are in God's family of believers in Jesus Christ. In this case the phrase, "Charity begins at home," is not necessarily bad. The body of Christ certainly needs to take care of its own. Certainly, at this time, in all the crisis events in the U.S. and other countries we all have opportunities to do good on God's behalf to both believers and non-believers. Let us not be weary in doing good and let us depend on God's Spirit to help us to be faithful to complete our task.
