A DAY TO REMEMBER! I was just a baby when Pearl Harbor happened so I don’t remember from personal experience anything about the event that had a profound effect on my life at that time and for the remainder of my life. I do remember September 11, 2001 and watching the events of that day on TV and it has affected my life and the lives of all Americans since that day. Millie and I were in Kansas City visiting our daughter and we were scheduled to fly home very soon. Like many Americans we found our flights canceled and considered ourselves fortunate we were able to rent a car and drive back to Panama City Beach, Florida. The flying experience and security measures in all our society have forever been changed because of that event. Our hearts went out to those who lost their lives on that day to the “pure evil acts” of a handful of terrorists. And we were sickened as we watched on TV as people in other parts of the world danced with joy at the evil act and the thousands of people killed; people who were visiting New York from around the world. We were awed by the bravery of the men and women, public servants and civilians, who gave their lives on that day in order to help others. Some people have chosen to be silent on Facebook today in respect of that event but I feel we need to remember those who lost their lives that day and remember the evil that dwells in our world and the ultimate answer to that evil.
Those terrorists who committed the acts of terror on 9/11/2001 and their followers around the world served only to awaken people to the depths of evil that inhabits our world. Satan is alive and well on planet earth and he is using people to serve his purposes to enslave people in “pure evil” and cause them to follow his plan to divide people and lead them into following false gods and Satanic religious leaders of this world so that Satan can gain ultimate control. From an earthly stand point we do need to have a strong and wise use of security and military forces to combat these forces and protect our citizens. We do need to control the entry of people into our country so that we know who lives among us. Those measures are only common sense and real wisdom. It is the duty of government to serve and protect its citizens.
But we also need to realize where the real battle is. The Apostle Paul reminds us, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms,” (Ephesians 6:12 NIV). This is true not only in our individual lives but also in the world that surrounds us. The powers of darkness and those controlled by the powers of darkness are not interested in people living in peace. It is only the Prince of Peace who will bring ultimate peace to this world. As His representatives on earth we as Christians need to be about the task of taking His true gospel of peace to the world. While we recognize the evil around us we should not be sidetracked away from what our real task is and where our efforts should be focused. Most of the millions or billions of spiritually lost people in the world are not our enemies but are only living in the Kingdom of Darkness. They need an opportunity to hear the good news of the Prince of Peace so they too may have real peace. This day on the calendar should once again remind us of the battle between good and evil on earth and challenge us as Christians to renew our efforts to spread the gospel across the face of the earth. While we work for Jesus let us on this day give honor and remembrance to who it is due.
