WHY? Why does it seem that our non-Christian friends and family members can't see the world with the same eyes and spirit we do? To name a few areas of differences: Creationism vs evolution; life vs abortion; infallible Scripture vs errors, myths, & untruths; one way to God through Jesus Christ vs many ways to God; absolute truth vs relativism; and there are many more. Why then is there such a difference in how we see things and how our non-Christian friends see them? After all, our view seems so simple to us. God answers this question on differences with the following statement in the Bible, "The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit," (1 Corinthians 2:14 NIV).
Christians should not expect non-Christians to see the world through God's eyes when they haven't received the discernment provided by God's Spirit. Too often we argue about our differences rather than pray for the ones who still do not have the Spirit of God to teach them. I can remember those days when I was separated from God and without His Holy Spirit to teach me. It should be our prayer that God would teach us Christians more about His grace and less about coming out on top in discussing controversial topics. Only God can change a person’s heart in a way that will lead them to His truth.
