“I THINK, THEREFORE I AM!” REALLY? The Philosopher Rene Descartes was very shallow in his thinking when compared with the God who created everything and explained the reality of existence in one simple sentence through His preacher the Apostle Paul. In one of Paul’s great sermons recorded in Acts 17 he said the following about our existence and our relationship to Jesus, “For in Him we live and move and have our being,” (Acts 17:28 NIV). Will you take a moment and reflect on that today? Who we are and what we are, and what we do, and in fact our very existence is not dependent on the opinions, decrees, laws or philosophies of others. All those things are related to our heavenly Father and our relationship with Jesus Christ.
The prophet Isaiah recorded this truth about God, “This is what God the Lord says—the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it,” (Isaiah 42:5 NIV). Our existence is not dependent on our thinking. Our existence is dependent on God the Creator of all things and we should be totally thankful to Him because of that. Jesus will guide our thoughts and actions and responses to all areas of our life if we recognize His presence in every moment and every breath of our existence. Shut out the world and think about that for a moment. Then go out and live this principle.
