WHAT IS GOD DOING? Sometimes it is hard to discern exactly what God is doing in our lives. Our plans may seem good and right but often God has other plans for us. And God may not always immediately show us His reasons for His plans. Maybe never. So it was with the Apostle Paul and Silas on the second missionary journey. They wanted to preach the Gospel in certain places but God prevented them from doing so. Now why would God do that? Weren't they commissioned by Jesus himself to preach the gospel in all the world? Our plans as good and pure as they may be may not be God's plans for the moment. We need listening ears and open minds and hearts so we hear and respond to God's plans for us. His plans are always better. The Bible tells us how Paul and Silas discovered that in their lives.
"Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them,” (Acts 16:6-10 NIV). Closed doors in our lives don’t always mean our intentions are wrong or our plans are in opposition to God. Sometimes it just means that we need to pause for a time or it may mean to look for an open door of opportunity that God is providing.
