A SWEET BEGINNING!
A Sweet Beginning! The beginning of things is often so much simpler and sweeter than what they often morph in to. When we read about the beginning of Christ's Church and then look at many local churches today we often wonder if we have not lost our way. Think about this as you read this passage from the book of Acts and reflect on how we as Christians and local churches might need to adjust our lifestyle and worship. When thousands of people accepted Jesus as their Savior following a tremendous sermon by the Apostle Peter they were immediately added to the numbers of the church and joined them as described in the following verses. "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved," (Acts 2:42-47 NIV). When compared to the remainder of the New Testament there is no doubt this was a unique experience yet many of the same elements of this church were found in all of the churches planted during the first century. The sweet beginning of the church is certainly worthy of our reflection today.
