WHY THESE MIRACLES? Why does the Gospel of John record some miracles of Jesus but not all of them? And why does the Apostle John choose these miracles and not others to record for us? And what effect should a reading of these miracles have on us? And have you been affected by your reading of John's Gospel? John explains this for us. "Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name,”(Gospel of John 20:30-31NIV).

The Apostle John makes it clear that the miracles performed by Jesus in the changing of water into wine, healing the child in Capernaum, healing the paralytic at Bethesda, feeding the 5,000, walking on water, healing the man blind from birth, and the raising of Lazarus from the dead were all done to lead us to faith in Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God so that we might have life through Him. We should remember that these miracles performed by Jesus are not the only things He did but they are God’s arrows to pierce our mind and heart and lead us to Jesus the miracle working God. Don’t pass the miracles by too quickly but take time to reflect on them and realize the love and power of the one who is performing them. In a concluding thought to his gospel the Apostle John reflects on the life of Jesus as he states, "Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written,"(Gospel of John 21:25 NIV).
