WHERE ARE YOU LOOKING FOR LOVE? Many people today feel that they are unloved and unlovely and isolated and alone in an unloving world. The Devil has laid many traps for those people who go looking for love in all the wrong places and he can make the avenue to love very attractive. The old TV show “Cheers” made it seem like you could find all the right, kind, loving and accepting relationships in the local neighborhood bar. Many TV programs have followed this format in a variety of ways to promote how all kinds of people can find love and acceptance in an unloving world. Social media is another area where commercialism has been used to lead people down the primrose path of disaster in order that they may find love. Pay your money, put in your profile and up pops your mate for life. What could be easier for a person in search for love?
Even many Christians have fallen into the world’s traps in their search for love. “I met them on line,” has become a real red flag in the world of Christian relationships. The search for love in this world will rob you of real joy if you are looking for it in people, things, or circumstances. Jesus would like to see everyone find real love and joy in this life now and for eternity. Jesus wants our joy and love to be full, complete and overflowing for now and for all eternity. In His Word Jesus does tell us how anyone and particularly the Christian can find real love and joy. Jesus told us the real truth about love just a few short hours before He was nailed to the cross at Calvary on our behalf. Jesus said, “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: ‘Love each other as I have loved you,’” (Gospel of John 15:10-12 NIV). Real love is found in Jesus and obedience to His commands. He has provided the Church, the body of Christ, as our family to help us find real loving relationships that will help us in finding the kind of love in the world Jesus offers now and for eternity. Pray for those you know who are looking for love in all the wrong places and ask God to help you to point them to the one who offers the love they really need.
