WHERE IS THE LOVE?
WHERE IS THE LOVE? We are fifteen months from the next Presidential election and the debates have started on the Democratic side to see who will be their candidate for President. I must say that the way they talk about each other in the debates is often very unkind and certainly does not express love toward one another. Maybe that is what we have come to expect in American politics. All this leads me to think about how we Christians think and talk about each other when we have different ideas and views on life and often the Bible. The non-Christians often have a hard time understanding Christians. Christians often divide into little camps (almost like Democrats & Republicans) and hurl insults at each other. Sometimes Christians gossip about each other. And sometimes Christians are very unforgiving of each other. And we could add many other things to our list. You probably have your own list.
So it is no wonder non-Christians have a hard time understanding and believing the gospel message we Christians share with them. After all, "the proof is in the pudding," as the old saying goes. Or as someone has said, “Your actions are speaking so loud I can’t hear what you are saying.” It is my prayer today that we Christians will just try to live up to what Jesus said we should do BECAUSE it works. Can't we just try to show the love of Jesus to each other like Jesus has shown to us? Jesus said, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another,” (Gospel of John 13:34-35 NIV).
