SOLITUDE AND PRAYER!

July 29, 2019

SOLITUDE AND PRAYER! I have found that people often believe in prayer even when they profess not to have faith that there is a God. I do not believe that in all my years of Christian life I have ever had anyone refuse to have me pray for them. Most people express appreciation that I would even care enough about them to pray for them. Though I consider myself to be a faithful praying person it is to my shame that I probably don’t pray enough; especially for the needs of other people. Sometimes it seems there are so many people in my circle of contacts that the need and requests for prayer seem overwhelming. If there is one thing we as Christians need to do it is to pray faithfully and often. We may be handicapped in life by many things that keep us from being fully engaged in God’s Kingdom work or in fully active participation in the body of Christ but for most Christians there is very little that can or should keep us from prayer.

All of us should seek out the solitude of prayer as directed by Jesus. He said, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you,” (Matthew 6:6 NIV). There is just something about solitude or being alone with God and praying. There we can bring our body, soul, and spirit before the throne of heaven and pour out our praise and requests before God. For a space of time all our thoughts and emotions can be directed before God who is able to respond to us in an all- powerful and wise way. Even Jesus often separated Himself from the Disciples in order to meet His Father alone in solitude for a time of prayer. Just us and God; in this rush, rush, world that is a privilege and a pleasure.
