“BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD!” In the midst of troubled and tumultuous times when we have a tendency to despair and wonder how we will ever survive the next catastrophe in life these words from Psalm 46:10 are a great reminder to us that God is really in control of things. The Psalmist reminds us that neither the natural events of this world nor the powers of this world (spiritual or nations) will overcome God’s flow of grace and mercy. The world may be in an uproar all around us and our personal life may seem to be hanging by a thread but God is still in control. God’s advice is, “Be still and know that I am God.” Even in troubled times in a troubled world God says, “I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth,” (Psalm 46:10 NIV).
In this busy and rushing world that we live in today it would be good to look back 3000 years in history and follow the Psalmist’s advice. God has not changed in this period of time. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever,” (Hebrews 13:8 NIV). The Psalmist said, “The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress,” (Psalm 46:11 NIV). As we face our daily problems and needs we need to remember who God is and that He is with us in all His power. He surrounds us with His protection. He is our fortress. As He exercises His wisdom and power among the nations and in the spiritual realm He also exercises His wisdom and power in our life. It would do us good to BE STILL as we start the day and remember God and who He is and what He wants to do for us today.
