PURPOSE!

July 11, 2019

PURPOSE! I don’t know about you but I often think or ask, “What is the purpose in that?” Like government forms, or Facebook posts, or some of the laws we have, or some TV commercials or free shipping that adds a handling charge. And what about all those tools at Home Depot? Does anyone really know all the purposes those all-purpose tools have? And what about the purpose of life? Are you clear on your purpose in life or are you just living day to day aimlessly moving into the future? That’s a big question. We don’t necessarily need to know the purpose of everything but we should know the purpose of life.

Most Christians know that the bible is clear that the disciple should reflect his/her teacher. Jesus said, “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher,” (Luke 4:40 NIV). Teachers should be models and Jesus was the perfect teacher and model and we should strive to be like him in every way. Jesus also said, “Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him,” (John 13:16 NIV). Just as Jesus reflected His Father in every way so should we strive to reflect Jesus in every way. This includes things like humility. Jesus also said to the disciples, “As the father has sent me, I am sending you,” (John 20:21 NIV). A lot is wrapped up in that verse but at the very least Jesus is sending us forth in life with the purpose to continue to serve Him in carrying out His mission in life which He stated as, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost,” (Luke 19:10 NIV). If our purpose is to reflect Jesus as our teacher and master then we also have the purpose in life of reaching out to the lost that they might be saved. I may have a lot of questions about the purpose of things in life but I do not nor should you have any question about your purpose for being here. When you model and serve Jesus you can’t go wrong.
