OBEDIENCE A SIGN OF LORDSHIP! Jesus has a way of getting to a point very quickly. Some people talk around a point but never get to the point and some cloud the point so much that we are not sure what their point is. Jesus is very clear about the points He wants to make. Jesus said, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46 NIV). If Jesus is really our Lord then obedience to what He says should mark our life and not just occasionally but repeatedly. Now to make His point really clear Jesus states that He will give us an example of what He is talking about (v.47). I like examples added to what someone says because sometimes I am a little dense and Jesus knows that so He makes what He is saying crystal clear for people like me. His example is found in Luke 6:48-49 NIV).
The example is about foundations that stand the test of time and the storms of life that we will all experience. A solid foundation built on Jesus and obedience to His words (teachings and commands) will weather the storms of life successfully and prove to ourselves and to Jesus that we really are His disciples and that He is our Lord. On the other hand a person who hears His words (teachings and commands) and “does not put them into practice” not only demonstrates they are not a disciple of Jesus and He is not their Lord because they “built a house on the ground without a foundation” but destruction will follow their actions. Jesus makes clear by His words what He expects of us in this life and obedience to Him is a sign of His Lordship in our life.
