ARE YOU DRAGGING TODAY? Sometimes it seems like you just will not be able to drag yourself out of bed. A long night because of sick kids, a sick spouse, or maybe a sick you and sleep is gone but the day is ahead and there is no way to escape it. Life is not always easy and full of fun and games or pleasant activities. Sometimes life just wears you down and wears you out. There are a 1001 things that may befall us in this life that causes us to want to just hide in our room and shut the world out. But responsibilities call and most of the time we just have to drag ourselves out of bed and into what may seem like a hostile environment in our condition. It is in times like this that we need to remember a promise like this from God’s Word, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak,” (Isaiah 40:29 NIV). It is good to have a heavenly power source in addition to the pharmacy.
I am sure Jesus and the Disciples must have felt like us at times; at least the Disciples must have because of the crowds of thousands and the care they provided for them. And it appears the Disciples could fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I am sure the Disciples were often dragging trying to keep up with Jesus. The people of Jesus’ day worked hard from sun up to sun down and I can imagine the basic issues of life such as food, clothing and housing wore them down pretty good as well. It is well to remember when we are dragging that we know someone who can help us. That someone is Jesus who said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light,” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV). When we are dragging we may not find a lot of sympathy from those around us such as our co-workers or even family but there is one who cares for us and in Him we can find the rest and power we need.
