WHO WILL YOU SERVE TODAY!
WHO WILL YOU SERVE TODAY? For a Christian this should be a simple question with a simple answer but for many it appears very difficult to answer and be consistent in practice. The question every morning is who or what are we going to serve today? The question is not who or what did you serve yesterday. That day is gone forever. The question is not who or what will we serve tomorrow. There are no assurances we will be here tomorrow. Or maybe tomorrow we may be in no condition to make that decision due to health issues or planet departure (death), or other life issues. Jesus has given us a major statement of fact that each one of us must face today, think on and act wisely in our response. “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money,” (Matthew 6:24 NIV).
Many Christians have forgotten or have ignored what Jesus said. Many Christians are chasing after the dollar or after material things and have forgotten about service to God and their family. Many have given up their service for God to serve the wealth of this world and in many cases have sacrificed their families on the altar of the god of this world. Service for God and working to provide for our families are not mutually exclusive choices. In all we do to earn an honest income we can still serve God. The Apostle Paul said, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him,” (Colossians 3:17 NIV). In many places in America today there are those who would like to see Christians silenced and God eradicated from any public place. The decision each Christian must make as we open our eyes each day is, “Who will we serve today?” We can have only one master today. I don’t know about you but as Joshua of old said, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord,” (Joshua 24:15 NIV).
