THE RIGHT REASONS! Why do we do what we do? Sometimes we do things for the wrong reasons and later we are sorry we did. Sometimes it is hard to discern what is or is not the right reason to do something. Sometimes we do things because we feel pressured into it and then we discover that we made a big mistake. Life can be complicated and our reasoning processes sometimes can become clouded by our emotions. Even the reasons why the Church ministers in certain ways must be evaluated and questioned as to why we do things the way we do and what are the reasons for continuing in our practices. I like how the Apostle Paul described the new church in Thessalonica and their reasons for doing what they did.
The Apostle Paul said of the members of this church, “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in the Lord Jesus Christ,” (1 Thessalonians 1:3 NIV). What great and right reasons for Christians to follow today in their Christian faith. Whatever we do today for Jesus let us do it because of the faith we have in Jesus Christ and His guidelines for our lives not because someone pressures us to do something or tells us what we ought to do but rather because of our faith in Jesus and His desires for our life. What we do today for Jesus should be prompted by our love for Jesus and our desire to emulate His love in our life. If we don’t have the love of Jesus prompting us in our endeavors we will be pressured and squeezed by others to follow their bidding or carry out their ideas and programs that may not be love related at all. Sometimes one can get lost in the reasoning and despair of this world and lose hope but for the Christian our inspiration and endurance in life comes from knowing Jesus Christ. The eternal hope we find in Jesus gives hope to the hopeless and when that hope is discovered the inspiration of Jesus Himself will give us endurance for now and the future. What a great church in Thessalonica and what a great example of right reasons to live for Jesus today.
