TRUST!

June 18, 2019

TRUST! It seems we live in a world of distrust today. There is distrust between the politicians we send to Washington to work together to further and enhance the lives of the American people. There is distrust between the leaders of the nations of the world. Almost everything you buy comes with a warranty today but most people don’t trust the warranties because of the fine print that you can’t read with a magnifying glass or because they have had a bad experience with a warranty before. When I entered primary school back in the dark ages the teachers were trusted to give me a good education, teach morals, ethics, good conduct, and a love for our country. Today people have a hard time trusting teachers because so many teachers do none of those things. I must admit that Ronald Reagan had a good principle when he was President, “Trust but verify.” It is sad that things that have degenerated to this position in the world but then maybe things have always been this way but I was just too dumb to realize it. Someone has said, “Whether a friendship, family relationship, or business or personal partnership, any bond is built on trust. Without trust, you have nothing. With it, you can do great things. Think about it.” It would be good for anyone to think about that statement.

It would also be good to think about this statement from God’s Word on trust, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit,” (Jeremiah 17:7-8 NIV). I have found in life that when I trust in God and live by His principles I find it easier to trust in people until they demonstrate their untrustworthiness than to just go through life trusting no one. Does that mean I should not verify the facts that I am given or the warranties that I receive? Common sense would tell me otherwise and God’s partnership in life will assist me in dealing with people and situations. If I strive to live in such a way that people can trust me to be honest and truthful in my friendships, family relationships and business or personal partnerships life will be much better than living in an environment of distrust. Though I may be “burned” at times still I would rather live in an environment of trust and build my life with trusted friends and family than to go through life suspicious of everyone and everything around me. The prophet said, “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him,” (Nahum 1:7 NIV).
