TODAY!

June 9, 2019

TODAY! “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it,” (Psalm 118:24 ESV). We don’t know about tomorrow but God has given us today. We should thank God for this day and we should do it with a joyful spirit regardless of our circumstances for God has seen fit to allow us one more day in the earthly realm. We know God has a plan for this day for us. Let us not be fretting today about tomorrow because we don’t know what that day will bring nor do we even know if we will be here tomorrow. Jesus said, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble,” (Matthew 6:34 ESV). We should also realize that we need to use the opportunities the day brings us to worship and serve the Lord. Tomorrow will bring its own opportunities to do that but we should not miss the opportunities of today because we are focused on tomorrow.

We also should not waste the joys and gladness of today that the Lord brings because we are so focused and fretful of days that have already passed. “Say not, ‘Why were the former days better than these?’ For it is not from wisdom that you ask this,” (Ecclesiastes 7:10 ESV). Memories can bring great joy and memories can bring pain and suffering. But to dwell in memory land is to miss the opportunities God presents us each day as we move through life. We need to realize each day is a gift from God and is to be used to fulfill His plan for our life. Whatever this day brings and however this day ends we should approach it with a spirit of thankfulness to God and with a joy in our hearts that we know God. We should say today as Joshua said so many years ago, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” (Joshua 24:15 ESV).
