THE BEAUTY SALON! Yes, I had to make another trip to the beauty salon, not that I needed to go but my wife felt the need to visit the place. My praise of her beauty and the fallacy of visiting a place where there were so many women who actually needed to be there didn’t prevent her determination to see if I really knew what I was talking about. So off we went to the place where men are looked upon with suspicion and sometimes admiration when sitting among them. Sure enough all the handicapped parking spaces were full as was the entire parking lot. I am telling you there is money in making women more beautiful. Gossip and tales of adventure fill the airwaves when so many ladies come together in one place. Stories about frogs, lizards, iguanas, snakes, and alligators seemed to be the favorite topics on this day. I thought for a moment that I must be in the men’s barber shop instead of the beauty salon. This is South Florida so I wasn’t surprised. But now it appears you really need to check your toilet bowl before you sit down because there is no telling what may be there. And it also appears that alligators are now breaking into houses in search of little animals to eat or maybe they just want to raid the refrigerator. In the area where my wife and I live it appears one of the plagues of Egypt in the form of frogs has come upon us. This I know to be true because at night my son’s dog spends all his “potty time” chasing frogs and lizards rather than doing his business.
I thought I would set outside a while on a bench and enjoy the 90 degree heat, sweat and listen to the sounds of traffic. At least I wouldn’t be dodging walkers and wheelchairs. But outside, parked on my favorite bench, were caregivers patiently waiting and talking and swearing into their cell phones. Evidently the people on the other end of the conversations weren’t handling their money or credit cards correctly and they were really upset. Oh, for the peace and quiet of home. When the time arrived to depart, I took my place in line and signed the loan forms to pay the bill for the day (I told you there was money in beauty). I told my wife how wonderful her hair looked, very discreetly tipped the hair dresser and departed this exciting place. I am happy I am able to assist my wife to visit such places and really happy that most of my life I had escaped these experiences. But you know, you really do meet some very interesting people at the beauty salon and I think I need to pray more for the regulars and staff because I am sure most of them need Jesus. Maybe then my time at the salon would be more fruitful for God’s Kingdom. As the Apostle Paul said, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus,” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV).
