IMITATORS! An imitator can be defined as “a person who copies the behavior or actions of another.” We see that very often in life with our children. It is amazing how they imitate us. You can often tell what parents are like by the actions of their children. In the Christian life who we choose to imitate and the things we choose to imitate are especially important. The Apostle John wrote to his “dear friend Gaius” whom he loved “in the truth” and gave him this challenge and encouragement, “Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God,” (3 John 1:11 NIV). The Apostle Paul also encouraged his fellow Christians to “follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1 NIV). Even when we as Christians follow the examples of other Christians we need to make sure the other Christians are following the example of Jesus Christ. Even as Paul served as a good example of how a Christian should live he also gave this admonition, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God,” (Ephesians 5:1 NIV). The actions of Christians should follow the godly example of Jesus and not just a person with a title.
We live in a society today that is trying to say good is evil and evil is good. People, including a lot of people who profess to be Christians, mock God’s Word the Bible and call its truths old fashioned, outdated, and unloving to others. The Apostle Paul addressed the evil of mankind against both belief in God and the morality of mankind in Romans 1 verses 18-32. In this small portion of Scripture God gives the progress of the human race in their belief in God and the morality of society; it is a shocking downward spiral both in the worship of God and in lives lived in purity. When God and His Truth as given in the Bible are rejected human hearts are given over to fulfilling their sinful desires of sexual impurity and shameful lusts and exchanging the natural sexual desires as given by God for unnatural desires including homosexuality and lesbianism. In our current society a multitude of other unnatural acts could be added to the list. When God is rejected God gives the ungodly over to a depraved mind. We are reaping the results of that in America today. Is it any wonder our educational system in so many States is trying to introduce acceptance of these unnatural acts into the curriculum at elementary and middle school levels? They want our children to become imitators and acceptors at an early age and thereby bring our society down to the lowest level of morality and rejection of God and His Word. Christian parents need to set the godly example of worship of God and the highest standards of morality. Christian parents also need to stand against an educational system that is out to provide the wrong types of people and wrong principles for their children to imitate.
