SOMETIMES ALL YOU CAN DO IS PRAY!
SOMETIMES ALL YOU CAN DO IS PRAY! What a week it has been with this crazy weather. It seems we have had tornados and bad weather everywhere. Millie and I have two granddaughters who live in the Dayton, Ohio area where tornados ran wild and caused extensive damage. We are thankful they were not harmed and suffered no damage. In the area also we have a Caribbean Vision Ministries Board member and his family, multitudes of personal friends and several supporting churches. Though many of them it seems suffered property damage as far as I know at this time none of them suffered injuries. Time and Facebook will reveal that to us I suppose. In the meantime 832 miles to the West from Dayton my daughter and her family along with thousands of other residents in Kansas City were taking shelter from more tornados tearing through their section of the country. A big tornado came within five miles of our daughter’s home as she, her daughter, and her husband along with birds and dogs huddled in the basement. We are thankful they had no injuries and no damage.
Sometimes all you can do is pray! Because Caribbean Vision Ministries works in the Caribbean we are used to hurricanes running rampant on the Islands and causing many deaths and sometimes total destruction of Islands. In most of those situations we have found that all we can do is pray. That may seem like a simple thing to many people and of no value to others but we need to remind ourselves we cannot always be present in body to help people and in many situations even communication is lost. But really, what is more powerful than prayer? God can change the direction of tornados, lessen the power of hurricanes, and preserve the lives of people when it may seem to us all will be killed. Prayer is a powerful tool in the hands of righteous people and in all situations, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective,” (James 5:16 NIV). The prophet Elijah prayed and God stopped the rain for three and a half years. He prayed again and it began to rain. God can control the weather if so chooses. Jesus said, “With God all things are possible,” (Matthew 19:26 NIV). We should not underestimate the power of our prayers and the response of our God. We watch TV and see approaching weather dangers and our hearts go out to those in the path of danger. What can we do? We are hundreds if not thousands of miles away. What can we do? Sometimes all you can do is pray. Let God hear from us and then let us hear from God and see what He does.
