HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE! “Memorial Day isn’t just about honoring veterans, its honoring those who lost their lives. Veterans had the fortune of coming home. For us, that’s a reminder of when we come home we still have a responsibility to serve. It’s a continuation of service that honors our country and those who fell defending it,” (Pete Hegseth). The flags are out and flying, the bands are playing, the parades are in progress, and flowers are on the graves. Freedom comes at a heavy price. Freedom is not free. It is good to have a special day to honor those who gave their lives that generations to follow might enjoy the freedoms they died for. It is good also to remember, as Pete Hegseth said, that maybe our true honoring of their sacrifice is in our continuation of service to the country to see that their sacrifice is not in vain. In that way honor is given to them not just on one day but on every day of the year. It would be tragic to pay honor to those who gave their lives on one day of the year and then spend the remainder of the year neglecting, destroying, and abusing the very principles and values they died for. Many, I believe, have arrived at that point in America today.

The bible reminds us that we should give to everyone what we owe them including respect and honor (Romans 13:7).

President John F. Kennedy said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live by them.” It is for sure that we should honor those who died in the military uniform of our country. They gave their life to preserve and protect the citizens and the country in which we live. They are of all different ages, backgrounds, races, and sexes and from every part of the country. The best way to show honor and respect for these heroes is to remember them for their sacrifice and live in accordance with their example of courage and dedication.
