YOU CAN’T REDUCE GOD TO A BOX OR A BOOK! There are some people who think they know everything about God. They have given God a great deal of thought and now they have God all figured out. So they want to tell us everything about God. What God thinks, what God wants of us, and what God is really like is now so revealed to them that they want to write a book about God and get on the best seller list. Is God really so simple that we can TOTALLY understand Him, His ways and His thoughts? Is our God so shallow that our simple mind can TOTALLY understand and comprehend everything about Him? Can we know God so well that we no longer have any questions about Him or for Him? Can the one created by God really know everything about the one who created him and accumulate the vast knowledge of God or understand all the attributes of God? Really now, is there anyone so smart, so wise that they can give us all the answers about God? Some are so sure of this knowledge that they have created their own system of religion. Others are so sure we know nothing about God that they have created their system of religion as well.
God has written His own book. It is called the Bible. In that book God’s servant the Apostle Paul says this about God, “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen,” (Romans 11; 33-36 NIV). One of the glorious things about God is that we cannot totally understand God and this side of heaven we will never figure out what God is doing in the management of billions of lives so that
“all things work together for the good of those of us who love Him” (Romans 8:28). God’s intellect, wisdom, and ways are so far beyond us simple human beings that we show our ignorance and arrogance every time we think we have God figured out. I am thankful that God wrote a book and it is the world’s best seller and it gives me all I need to know about God at this point in my existence today. I just need to live up to what I know today. Yet the book contains so much more about God that I need to know that it keeps me opening its pages and thirsting after knowledge concerning God and my relationship with Him. Can others help me to understand God’s book better and in doing so know God better? For sure they can. But the final authority on God is God himself. And He can’t be reduced to a box. And the only book that is 100 per cent certain truth about God is His own book the Bible and the only perfect teacher is the Holy Spirit.
