FIGHTING AGAINST GOD! Think about it. Reflect for a moment on the foolishness of fighting against the very one who created not only the heavens and the earth but also the very people who occupy this planet called earth. Would we call one wise that fights against God? In the book of Isaiah the question is answered in this way, “Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’?” In reality every person before God is as nothing in a battle with God. Our wisdom and strength is nothing compared to the great God who has created everything. We are like broken pieces of pottery in a pile of broken pieces of pottery; unable in ourselves to even manage our own broken lives in a world of broken lives. A pile of broken pieces of pottery would never in and of itself ever be able to create a beautiful piece of pottery just as in and of ourselves we could never take our broken lives and make a beautiful life anywhere near as beautiful as God can.
We live in a world that is continually fighting against God and for Christians that can be a very frustrating thing. But we need to remember this one thing as we begin each day, “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord,” (Proverbs 21:30 NIV). Very often it seems that our desire to live a righteous life is under attack at every moment during the day. The humanistic world we live in today where “every person does what is right in their own eyes” and every sin made known to us in the bible is considered old fashioned and OK to do in society today makes it hard for the Christian to live righteously. After all “light” reveals darkness and those living on the dark side from a biblical viewpoint don’t like being told they are sinners by God’s book and shown to be such when their behavior is contrasted with that of godly Christians. So we have politicians and religious leaders today who fight against God’s people and call wrong right and right wrong and lead others to rebel against the Christian faith and people of faith and are determined to destroy the values God has revealed in His Book and replace them with degradation promoted by God’s arch enemy Satan. But as we Christians continue to live and labor in this fallen world we live in let us be encouraged in the lives we live because, “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.” God is on our side and fighting against God is an exercise in futility.
