A PROMISE TO CHRISTIANS! The Apostle Paul reminds all Christians while writing to His protégé Timothy that persecution will be a part of the Christian life. Anyone who thinks life will be a bed of roses after establishing a relationship with Jesus Christ is sadly mistaken or misinformed or has not read and understood the pages of Scripture. Charlatans abound in our society who promises health, wealth, and the good life with holy formulas, charms or icons and often at a financial cost to the person seeking those things. But the Apostle Paul said, “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived,” (2 Timothy 3:12-13 NIV). Persecution is a promise from God’s Word for those who want to follow God in a godly life. So buckle up and be prepared to fight the good fight for God’s Kingdom. How can we endure persecution and win the battle? Paul said, “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus,” (2 Timothy 3:14-15 NIV). If you are fortunate you will have been taught the words of the bible from an early age but at the very least since you have become a Christian you should be learning the Word of God because it is going to give you the wisdom you need in life to endure persecution for your faith and have victory.
The bible from beginning to end is God’s Word given from the very mouth of God or as the bible says, “it is God-breathed.” Spiritual charlatans all around us want to give us special words they have heard from God or special secrets they know because they have listened to God and once again usually at a financial cost to us. God’s Word is available to all us and it “is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work,” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV). When persecution comes, and it is promised in God’s Word that it will come to all Christians who want to live godly lives, I don’t want to be depending on empty promises of spiritual charlatans but rather on the glorious promises of God’s Word. The writer of the book of Hebrews said, “Because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:5-6 NIV). Certain people in our United States government are attempting to pass legislation that will surely bring persecution to every Christian who is attempting to live a godly life in this country. It is called the Equality Act and was passed by the Democratic House on Friday. This Act gives special privileges to the LGBT community while stripping Americans of Religious Freedoms and degrading the rights particularly of women and children. Be prepared for persecution if this legislation is passed by the Senate and signed by the President. Read up, pray up, speak up and be equipped through God’s Word to endure any persecution that Satan will help people bring on Christians living in this country.
