TRUTH VS LIES! In America today and it seems around the world also, we have a big contest going on between the reality of truth and lies. This is not new but it has expanded today because of all the new communications systems developed in our modern society. It seems we have millions of people who will believe anything that is put on social media, TV, radio, internet or any other electronic media. Photos or video can be doctored as truth or visuals without context or sound can be made to be whatever the person wants them to be when totally void of the truth. Politicians on all levels who are totally ignorant of the facts of history can be elected by gullible constituents and given a platform for their spreading of lies and ignorance. Some murderous religious sect or political group in a country thousands of miles away can spread their lies via electronic media into homes in America where naïve people believe the lies and the results of their ensuing actions can bring murder and chaos. The truth and lies are really in a contest for the souls and lives of the people living in this world today. Whether we like it or not we as Christians cannot just stand idly by and watch our nation and the people of the world lose their souls and lives to this scheme of the devil.
Jesus faced the ignorant religious, political and general population of His day who did not want to receive the truth delivered by God through His Son and said, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies,” (John 8:42-44 NIV). The human race has not changed much today from the time Jesus walked the earth. The truth Jesus brought to earth is still being rejected by those who knowingly and often unknowingly and unwittingly follow the lies of the devil. The devil is still at work in this world, filling the hearts of people with sin and rejection of God and His Word and leading them in rebellion against God and His people. Lies have always been the tool of the devil. In Satan’s play book the bigger the lie the better. Jesus also said, “Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God,” (John 8:47 NIV). We who belong to God and know the truth of God’ Son and God’s Word need to be busy countering Satan’s scheme of deceiving the world through lies. All Christians need to begin sharing, in every way we can, the truth that the bible reveals in what Jesus also said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” (John 14:6 NIV). The truth will prevail over lies when we share it and God’s Spirit uses it to “penetrate even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart,” (Hebrews 4:12 NIV). We can wring our hands and say, “Woe is us,” or we can join the battle against lies and share the Truth.
