WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? That is a question that is asked often as we go through life. When a spouse dies, or all the children finally leave home to venture out on their own or retirement begins, where do we go from here? Or at the beginning of things the words, “I do, are shared and the pronouncement has been made that life should be lived together for the rest of our lives, then where we do we go from here? When disaster strikes and all is lost; persons, property, and hope, where do we go from here? When sin enters into a life, a relationship or a family that hurts and divides, where do we go from here? When we have been walking in this world in our selfness and self-centeredness, and lost condition and we meet Jesus and become a Christian, where do we go from here? You can add your own situation and ask the same question. It seems in my long walk through life that I have faced this question many times in many situations. Maybe you have also.
I do not have the answers to all those questions for you or for myself but I do know the one who does have the answers. I met him in the summer of 1964 and life has not been the same since. Time after time when I have come to a place in life that forces me to ask the question, “Where do we go from here?” this person has provided the answer. He has never been wrong in his advice and he has never charged me a dime for the correct answer. Does that mean that the situation immediately cleared up, all my problems or questions went away, and life became a paradise on earth? Really, not on your life! But when I met Jesus I discovered the reality that He is “the way and the truth and the life” and that in Him “we live and move and have our being” so if anyone has the answers to the question “Where do we go from here?” He would! Jesus uses the Bible as His answer book and the Holy Spirit to guide us in seeking and receiving answers. It is up to us to seek him and listen to Him whenever we come to that place in the road and have that question appear before us, “Where do we go from here?” I find that in His Word appears these verses that have helped me all situations, “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this,” (Psalm 37:3-5 NIV). The Good Shepherd will never give you bad advice.
