IS EASTER OVER FOR ANOTHER YEAR? Easter Sunday has come and gone for another year. The Easter specials are over; special worship services, special communion services, special evangelistic services, egg hunts, egg drops from the sky, musicals, dramas, bunnies, clothing, meals, family gatherings, photos, Facebook posts, and even special acts of terror. Easter Friday-Sunday are special days on the calendar for Christians and even a lot of non-Christians. I remember that as a child I might often be sent to church on Easter Sunday in new clothes when I did not have a clue what Easter was all about. I think there are a lot of people like that in the world. As a Pastor I made a special effort to reach those types of people for Christ on Easter Sunday. I love the gospel accounts of the Passion week events and the pathway to the cross and the cry on that first Easter Sunday, “He is risen.” What a range of emotions can be found in those accounts. I also love the fact that because of those events I can now say, “I once was blind but now I see.” I found new sight in the Savior and once I was lost but now I am found.

Easter is not over for another year. Easter should always be present in our lives. “He is risen” should be the daily reality of our life and the life we now live should be lived through the power of the Holy Spirit and the living Jesus living in us and giving us new special things each day of our life. New life in Christ should bring new characteristics of living in our life because “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control,” (Galatians 5:22-23a NIV). Those characteristics of living demonstrate the qualities that Jesus demonstrated in His time on earth. As the Apostle Paul said, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit,” (Galatians 5:25 NIV). If we really believe in the real message of Easter, “He is risen,” then our lives should indicate that every day by the life we live. He died and He rose so that we might have new life in Him through the redemption from our sins and live that life in Him now and for eternity. Let us not be like a small child going to church in new clothes but missing the good news of Easter in Christ.
