EASTER IS A DAY OF CELEBRATION! The reason we celebrate Easter is really very simple for the Christian to understand. It is summed up in a few words, “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said,” (Matthew 28:6 NIV). These words spoken by an angel at the tomb where Jesus’ body had been placed, the tomb sealed, and a guard posted to make sure he stayed in the tomb are some of the most famous words in history. These words, spoken to the two women named Mary, were spoken as words of encouragement as the angel said, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified” (v.5). The resurrection of Jesus relieves fear, gives hope, proves the promises of His Word, condemns the works of Satan and the rulers of the world in their battle against God, and opens a pathway for redemption and eternal life to all people on planet earth. And we all need redemption “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

“He is not here: he has risen, just as he said,” were sweet words for the followers of Jesus to hear after the traumatic events that led up to this occasion. They are sweet words for us to hear today as we love and serve a risen Savior not a dead “prophet”, or a dead founder of a religion, or a meta-physical thought, or an object made by human hands,

The God of the bible has demonstrated His love for a fallen human race and sent His Son to provide a way of redemption and a pathway to return to a holy relationship with Him. It is all wrapped up in those words of the first Easter morning, “He is not here; he has risen.” Jesus bore the sins of the world, our sins, on the cross of Calvary and He has proven the validity of those actions for our behalf by rising from the grave. Easter is a day of celebration of

our forgiveness of sin through God’s Son the Lord Jesus Christ. As Jesus rose so shall we rise. Physical death cannot keep us from God. Physical death is not the end of our life but just the beginning of a new phase. Life on earth is much sweeter because of the resurrection. Sin cannot bind us or cause us to fear in a world fighting against God because Jesus has overcome fear, the world, and death and put a stamp of finality on those things with one simple fact, “He is not here, he has risen, just as he said.” The empty tomb and the risen Savior say it all on this day of celebration.
