A VOICE FROM THE PAST!
A VOICE FROM THE PAST. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the present that we forget the great people who went before us and paved the way for the future. That is evident in many in the political arena today and also in the Christian community. But God does not change and His care for us in all generations is certain. One voice from the past comes to us from James Hudson Taylor, a British Protestant Christian missionary who spent 51 years in China who was primarily responsible for bringing hundreds of missionaries to China, starting over a hundred schools, hundreds of places for the gospel to be preached and in at least 18,000 conversions to Christ. And his influence is still being felt today through OMF International missions. What would China be today without the influence he had on China’s society?
Hudson Taylor’s voice is still clear to each of us today through a commentary he made on Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing,” (NIV). Taylor said, “Not was, not may be, nor will be. ‘The Lord IS on Sunday, on Monday, and through every day of the week. He IS in January, in December, and every month of the year. He IS when I’m at home and in China. He IS during peace and war, and in times of abundance or poverty.” Two voices for us to listen to TODAY. God’s voice and that of the great missionary. Both will encourage us as we serve in God’s world today and remember that God is faithful and He has used the ministry of those before us to encourage us today.
