A RIGHT START!
A RIGHT START! How things begin often determine how they end. If a person or a horse stumbles at the beginning of a race the outcome probably isn’t going to be good. By God’s grace even bad starts in life can end well because God is the God of the impossible. The way we start our day will often determine how our day goes. It is a tough world out there and we need all the help we can get to go through the day and finish it well. King David of Israel faced tough things each day, enemies who “were out to get him,” much like Satan places things in our pathway each day to cause us pain and failure. But a right start each day will help us tremendously.
King David gave us a good principle that will help us each day to get a right start to the day. “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly,” (Psalm 5:3 NIV). A new day dawns and life seems to overtake us early with all the sounds and noise of the world from the cries of babies to the cries of all our electronic devices. And the night before often keeps us up late with its entertainment and a variety of other things; so much so that we are late in arising and often in a hurry to face the world. Even the world knows the value of a right start to the day. So much so that the hotels advertise the breakfast they serve as a “right start” and the fast food places push the coffee or breakfast items as “right start” items. But I think King David had a better idea and if you struggle with a right start to your day you might want to try King David’s principle. As David ends the fifth Psalm he says, “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield,” Psalm 5:12 NIV). There is nothing in life like a right start with God each day.
