HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR IN THE MIDST OF UNCERTAIN TIMES! We certainly seem to live in “uncertain times” when the world seems ready to explode in every place and in every way. It seems just when you think things can’t get worse in this world, they do. I am sure every generation down through history has felt this way at one time or another. So where do we go to gain certainty in an uncertain world? It often appears Institutions, governments, politicians, employers, and often even families seen to offer only uncertainty and doom and gloom. We have just come through the Christmas season with its emphasis on the message of God’s great gift to the world, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is certain we see in God’s message of His Son great hope for the future and the certainty of God’s future promises incarnated.
When Joseph discovered the fact that Mary (the mother of Jesus) was pregnant, his whole future life must have appeared to him to be uncertain. There was so much he did not know or understand at that moment in time. Joseph was a righteous man but here he was torn about the circumstances brought into his life. And living in a small village didn’t help the circumstances. As Joseph worked through his circumstances and God brought clarity to the situation through an angelic messenger the bigger picture came into play for him and us. “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means God with us),” (Matthew 1:22-23 NIV). Through uncertain circumstances in Joseph’s life came eventual blessings to the entire human race.
As we consider uncertain circumstances in our world on a personal and on a worldwide level let us remember all the things the prophets have said throughout all the pages of the Bible that are yet to come true. God has a great and glorious plan revealed on the pages of our bible both in the Old and New Testaments. And through His Word God reveals to us and provides for us on a daily basis the things we need and the direction we seek in an uncertain world. Times may seem uncertain to us but times are never uncertain with God. As we seek God’s face in 2019 all the uncertainty of the world will grow dimmer and the certainty of God’s plan will grow brighter. Have a great 2019 as you put your faith in Jesus to guide you through the events of this New Year.
