THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN OR HAVE THEY? A few days ago the people of Florida spoke in an election by casting their ballots so on November 7 I had a post titled, “The People Have Spoken!” and what our reaction to that should be. Little did I know at the time that while the people of Florida had spoken the people responsible for counting the votes in two of our counties appear to be either incompetent, dishonest, unlawful, careless, lazy or all of these things. While all the other counties in Florida could follow the laws of the State of Florida and do their job in spite of a hurricane and record turnouts for the election these two counties have failed miserly and produced chaos in the lives of candidates and the population at large. I just happen to live in one of those two counties and I have to tell you I am “ticked off” at those responsible for this failure to provide faithful and lawful service to the residents of these two counties. This has been a continuous pattern of these two counties over many years and it is time some changes are made to assure the voters the same kind of failures won’t happen in the future. Every legal vote cast in an election should be counted and every illegal vote should be cast aside and not counted and the recording of these votes should be done in a timely fashion. That is the only way all voters can have confidence in the system. May God grant us who live in these two Florida counties His grace and mercy so that we find some people who can supervise elections and the counting of the votes in a lawful and accurate manner.
I am sure happy that when it comes to moving from this earthly realm to the heavenly realm that we don’t have to have an election process established by the folks living around us to determine our final outcome. God has already set the standards for admittance to heaven and they never change. In addition God will make the final decision and the outcome will not be corrupted in any manner. The King will always be the King and His subjects will always be His subjects and the rules of righteousness will always be the same. We cast our vote for Jesus or against Jesus in this life and the results last for eternity. As Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” (John 14:6 NIV). I vote for Jesus and His plan and I can rest assured that my vote will not be mishandled by anyone. I wish I could say that same thing about my vote in elections in my county in Florida.
