THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! I don’t think anyone got everything they wanted, whether on the Local or National level, in the election completed yesterday. Life moves on and adjustments will be made. Some adjustments will be good and some will be bad depending on your perspective. As Christians we should continue to pray “for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior,” (1 Timothy 2:1-3 NIV). The big picture for the Christian should involve more than just elections and politics in our locale and in our country. We have a mandate from the one who should really be the focal point of our lives and his mandate involves the world and all humanity.
Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age,” (Matthew 28:18-20 NIV). The people who represent “we the people” can’t change the mandate given to us by Jesus. Those leaders can make carrying out the mandate harder or easier for us at times but the fact is the mandate will not change and God’s ability to supply and equip us for the mandate will not change. It is time for the Christians whose main focus has been on involvement in “human affairs” to get refocused on carrying out God’s mandate. As we carry out God’s Great Commission in our country and the rest of the world I think we will have greater results in affecting mankind than any election can produce. Prayer does change things and in cooperation with prayer the proclamation of the Word of God will change lives as well. “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ,” (Romans 10:17 NIV). We and the people around us have been bombarded with political messages until I think we are all sick of it. Now let us begin afresh and anew through prayer and proclamation to give the world the message of Christ which will truly refresh and change the life of the people around us.
