VOTING YOUR VALUES!

November 5, 2018

VOTING YOUR VALUES! This past week-end Millie and I cast our votes in the 2018 mid-term election. Early voting is a big help to many people whether one goes in person or submits their ballot by mail. Voting in America is a privilege God has allowed us to have in America and I believe it is critical that every person participates in the process and that every Christian should vote their Christian values. The Bible says, “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan,” (Proverbs 29:2 NIV). The election this year for the most part, whether local, State or National, offers clear choices between values in life. People who call themselves Christians should vote their Christian values because our true values are manifested not in what we say but in what we do. It is true that actions speak louder than words.

If you haven’t already voted and you are registered to vote then tomorrow you need to go vote unless it is impossible for you to do so. In many elections the choice is clear between those who are pro-life and those who are pro-choice (actually pro-death), between those who are pro-Israel and those who hate Israel, between those who are for biblical marriage and those who are for homosexuality, between those who are for lawful living and those who believe in violence to get their own way, between those who promote racism and those who love all their fellow human beings in a biblical manner. I could go on but the point is when you vote the issue is not “what’s in it for me” but rather what does God’s biblical guidelines say about this issue. That means you need to think and you need to understand the “real” issues before you cast your ballot. Voting is important and when we vote it does help to decide if in the future we will thrive in this society or if we will groan in this society. If you don’t vote then don’t complain about the results. If you do vote and things don’t go the way you wanted then seek God’s face about God’s plan for the future because ultimately He is in control. “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps,” (Proverbs 16:9 NIV). All of us can help make America great now and in the future if we vote following biblical principles.
