DIVISION!

October 31, 2018

DIVISION! There are those living among us who thrive on division. In fact they work very hard to make sure that there is constant division among the citizens of this country. In doing so they seek to obtain positons of power and honor and often obtain pathways to wealth. If these people did not seek to belittle, humiliate, cast dispersion, and stir up dissension they would probably have no place in society that satisfies their ego. They promote themes like: black power, white power, segregation into groups of races, languages, sexes, colors and religion. Each person of division is seeking promotion of one of more of those groups in contrast to the other groups. The more groups the better these people of division like it because it offers more pathways to suit their purposes. And I do not have to name names because you and I already know them and if we are wise we will avoid them like the plague.

The Apostle Peter had a rude awaking one day when God confronted him with his thinking on this topic of division or dividing people into groups and he came to a new understanding, “Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,” (Acts 10:34 KJV). James, the earthly brother of Jesus and leader of the early church in Jerusalem said, “My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, must not show favoritism,” (James 2:1 NIV). My point is simple today: God is not a democrat or a republican but rather a God of love for the entire human race and He would like to see human beings accepting one another and working together to provide a better life for everyone. God would like to see every human being receive the respect that He offers for everyone. We live in a sin filled world and the truth is there will always be people among us who want to divide us for their own purposes. God has given Americans a unique place in human history regarding the freedoms we have in contrast to other nations in the world. As Christians we should seek to elect the leaders of our country who seek to show respect for all people and bring people together instead of dividing them. When we have disagreements with people on the issues of life we should seek to discuss those issues with respect for one another and without violence and abusive language. We may never come to agreement with a lot of our fellow citizens on a lot of issues but we could at least treat them as God treats us. In that way just maybe non-Christians may discover the God who is no respecter of persons but treats all the same and offers  the only pathway to salvation through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
