CAUGHT! It appears the Mail Bomber has been caught so the politicians have returned to “business as usual” and have started blaming each other for pushing the “bomber” over the edge and causing his actions. We have really reached a low point in American society. As hordes of people described as a “caravan”, “mob”, “immigrants”, and a host of other names relentlessly move toward our Southern border and a confrontation with the Security personnel assigned to control the legal entry of people into this country hysteria reigns for many people. I once thought that the United States was a country of laws and most people were law-abiding citizens but it now appears our laws only apply to people if they choose to obey them and in many instances certain people think they are the ones who decide which laws apply to them and which laws apply to the remainder of us. I spent four years of my life in the military sworn to defending this country from all enemies domestic and foreign and now we have a generation that wants to invite the enemy into our country without any vetting at all. And a lot of Christians want to twist passages in the bible to mean that we should be an “open border” country. Maybe they should consider the possibility of sharing the gospel in countries where people live in difficult circumstances and by changing lives there see the gospel change that society in such a manner that people can remain in their home country and not seek to flee to another country. I am not unaware of people being forced to flee their country because of persecution that often leads to death but that is an exception not the rule.

America is a wonderful place to live in spite of our difficulties and conflicts because of our National problems. All of us are blessed by God to be able to live here legally. Those who are unhappy and choose not to abide by the laws of the land and seek to change the laws they are unhappy with by legal recourse can freely choose to move to a “better country.” Most Americans in their day to day life are able to get along with those of different religions, political beliefs, and most other differences we have. Most Americans are honest, law-abiding, hard-working, compassionate, and generous people who hold out a hand to a world in need. But we don’t like to have our hand bitten by anyone nor do we like people taking advantage of a system that has gone amuck that threatens our families and our security as a nation. As Christians we believe in God’s Great Commandment and the Great Commission so in spite of the turmoil in our country and the world at this time let us follow the words of Jesus, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…and love your neighbor as yourself,” (Matthew 22:37, 39 NIV). “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you,” (Matthew 28:19,20 NIV). If we go where people are in other nations and share the gospel of Christ and if we love people wherever we find them in this world we as Christians can make a difference in the lives of the people around us. Let us also do as the Apostle Paul instructed the young preacher Timothy, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,” (1 Timothy 2:1-3 NKJV). Prayer does change things.
