GOOD FROM DISASTER!

GOOD FROM DISASTER! In spite of our best efforts disaster often happens; a flood is one of those things. So it has been in Trinidad. The rains came and the rivers and drainage ditches overflowed. The yards, streets, houses and businesses filled with water despite the owners’ best efforts to stop the rising waters from entering their habitats. A lot of people now live in misery as they wait for the waters to recede so they can begin the clean-up. For many it will take years to recover and for all those affected life may never be the same again. But out of the flood disaster in Trinidad many people have stepped forward to demonstrate the love of God even in bad situations. It is amazing how in the trials of our souls Christians step forward to meet the challenges and help those around them. We have seen it in the events of hurricane Michael in the United States and now we see it in Trinidad. One big difference between the two countries of the United States and Trinidad is the amount of resources available to help people who are in need of the very basics of life.

The Christians at Cornerstone of Grace Fellowship in Trinidad are not mighty in number or resources and most of the congregational members have been affected by the flooding themselves but they are stepping forward to help fellow church members and those in the surrounding community. This is not an easy task when the water is still an obstacle to movement and resources are limited. The church building was not affected by the flooding though the area around it was flooded. For this the congregation is thankful and they have responded by using the building to help others. Yesterday Pastor Roger Dabideen and some others in the church family reached out to the community by serving lunch at the church facility. Pastor Roger reported, “Lunch was good. We had about 20 people there and we home delivered lunch to four families who were still cleaning or had no transport because the cars were flooded out. At our Wednesday night bible study we will discuss ways to further help.” I might mention that the Pastor’s home also experienced flooding.

The bible says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ,” (Galatians 6:2 NIV). In situations like the flooding in Trinidad it would be well for us to help our brothers and sisters in Christ if we are able. The bible says, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them,” (Hebrews 6:10 NIV). The people of Cornerstone are working in the middle of the flooding to help others while they themselves also suffer. Many of the people who read this post are people who have been to Trinidad. You know the people and conditions there and you realize the help they probably need at this time. Others of you have read about this group of people over the years through articles and emails we have written. You know their faithfulness to Jesus as they have served in a country among Hindus and Muslims and they serve those people in their needs as well. Will you help us at this time to assist the people of Cornerstone in their needs and also give them resources to help those around them? Your financial gift at this time will bring great relief to those who are suffering in this crisis of the flood. Every gift you make to Caribbean Vision Ministries and mark it for Trinidad Flood Relief will be used to help these people in need in Trinidad. We will work with Pastor Roger Dabideen to make sure every dollar is used to assist these people in need at this time. Pastor Roger has been my friend and faithful co-worker for twenty years. Please join us in helping him and the others in Trinidad at this time. You can give on our website at caribbeanvisionministries.org or you can send your gifts to Caribbean Vision Ministries, 14458 Via Royale, Delray Beach, FL 33446. Thank you for ministering to the people of Trinidad at this time.
