LIGHTS ON! The Psalmist proclaimed, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly,” (Psalm 5:3 NIV). I love mornings most of the time and I try not to disturb others who may be in the household. Just because I love mornings doesn’t mean that others do. And I try to keep lights to a minimum but I can’t do much about the fragrance of a fresh cup of coffee. A quiet time in the morning helps me to get my head clear, gives me some time to think and plan, and hear from God without a multitude of voices pulling me in all directions. And the pattern I have doesn’t mean I can’t sleep in from time to time and sometimes my body demands it.

But I am not a legalist who thinks that the morning is the only time to talk with God and meditate on His Word. In fact anytime will do but the key is that we do it; sitting in a doctor’s office waiting for what seems an eternity for your overdue appointed time can be made productive by reading the Word of God on your phone instead of scanning Facebook. Driving in the car and listening to good Christian music or a message from God’s Word from a good Preacher or the Word on CD or IPod can usually be profitable time. Wasted time is hard to reclaim and this I know from experience. I am sure I am not telling you anything new but I would like to encourage you to set some goals regarding a personal time with God each day and also evaluate those moments of wasted time and turn them into times of fellowship with God. The Apostle Peter said, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” (2 Peter 3:18 NIV). There is no better way to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus than to listen to His voice through His Word and learn of Him from the pages of the Bible. Meet Him there every opportunity you have and believe me the spiritual lights will come on and burn brighter.
