EDUCATE YOURSELF! Summer is over and in most places the children, teens and young adults are back in the classroom either in public school or in home schooling. Many are doing their studies on line; however, education is happening hopefully people are becoming better educated and wiser in their journey through life. Education, for all of us should be a lifetime pursuit and that holds true for Christians in the pursuit of more knowledge of God’s Word and the application of the principles of the Bible to our journey through life. I do believe that many Christians “slack off” in their pursuit of learning how to know God better through His Word and how to apply that knowledge of God in their journey through life. I also believe many Christians study, study, study the Word of God but never apply what becomes a head knowledge to their heart and life’s journey. That is like a vocational student spending years learning a trade but never using the skills they have learned.
Summer has ended and with all those summer activities behind us maybe it is now time to resume the biblical education one has put on hold for a while. The Apostle Paul told his young protégé Timothy, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,” (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV). Even preachers need to continually study the Bible, the Word of God. Age does not change that truth for preachers or for any Christian and really even during the summer we should not take a break from studying the Bible. I would like to encourage every Christian to become a life-long student of God’s Word and with all the modern tools at our disposal that is an even more exciting prospect. The time we spend in God’s Word will never be wasted. Fresh truths will be revealed daily by the Spirit of God guiding us in our study and old truths will refresh our souls once again. I pray that as we enter into the Fall season each of us Christians will once again be challenged afresh and anew to educate ourselves even more in the Word of God and apply the principles in our journey through life.
