LOST AND FOUND! The older I get the more I lose; sometimes permanently and sometimes temporarily. But if it is just temporarily lost is it really lost or just misplaced? Or is that worth the time trying to answer? Anyway, what brought this to mind was my misplacing something very important a few days ago and if the garbage man had been a few hours earlier that item would have been in our local dump. And just this morning I was trying to locate some computer files that appeared to be lost somewhere in the universe of the “cloud,” whatever that is and wherever that is. I used to know what a cloud was but now if you say “cloud” you have to explain what you are talking about unless it is dropping raindrops on your head. Anyway I hadn’t lost the file I had just misplaced it under some obscure magical file name and by God’s grace finally found it.
I was reading an argument this morning between two current (conservative?) Pastor/Theologians on the applicability of the Old and New Testaments in our generation and how we ought to maybe dispose of or at least minimalize the value of the Old Testament to reach the new generation among us. This argument led me to believe one of these men had misplaced or lost their understanding of the Scriptures and its application. We live in the largest generation of spiritually lost people who have ever existed in the world and this certainly is no time for “Spiritual Leaders” or just us common “lay people” to lose our way in sharing the gospel message that is so plain in the Scriptures.
Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me,” (John 14:6 NIV). Jesus, in speaking of the Old Testament Scriptures said, “These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,” (John 5:39 NIV). The Apostle Paul said, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,” (Romans 10:13 NIV). The Word of God is quite clear as it speaks of itself, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works,” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV). The bible from beginning to end speaks of Jesus and the same message shared simply and directly from the Word of God has been effective to bring people into a saving relationship with God. This is no time for Christians to lose or misplace the gospel message that God has given us from ALL the Scriptures to help a spiritually lost and dying world. This “younger generation” is not so special that we must compromise a clear understanding of the Word of God to reach them with the gospel. The same Holy Spirit who has been working in all generations is still working today through the same message that will save anyone.
