ADS CAN BE DECEIVING!

August 17, 2018

ADS CAN BE DECEIVING. I received an advertisement in the mail yesterday that said, “Let us help you plan for your eternity.” What the firm really wants to do is help you to plan for your physical death, funeral, burial or cremation, and your final burial site or an indoor or outdoor Mausoleum. None of that will help you plan for eternity. All of those things are just steps for dealing with your physical earthly body on this earth as you depart this realm for eternity in either heaven or hell. Now those services offered by the firm are important but the services they offer will not deal with where you really spend eternity. And this particular firm, because of their religious beliefs, will not help you to end up in eternity in the right place.

It seems in American society people are more concerned about the care of their physical body after death than they are about their soul and spirit after death. NOW appears more important than ETERNITY. Life on this earth in relation to eternity is a very short period of time and however long that period of time is that is all the time we have to plan for eternity. When you die it is too late to plan for eternity. If you die without funeral or burial plans someone or the government will see that your body is taken care of but they will not and cannot take care of your soul and spirit. That is our individual responsibility. The biblical account of Jesus, Lazarus, and the rich man in the gospel of Luke 16:19-31 reminds us of the importance of dealing with eternal issues while we are still alive on planet earth because when we die it is too late. The parable that Jesus told in Luke 12:16-23 of the rich man describes for us the futility of planning for things concerning this life but ignoring the reality of the brevity of this life and the failure to plan for eternity.

You probably have done some planning for life here on planet earth but have you done any planning for eternity? Does that planning include an eternal relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ? Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” (John 14:6 NIV). If a relationship with Jesus isn’t in your plans you aren’t ready for eternity. Where you spend eternity  is of primary importance in your life and believe me the firm that sent that advertisement to my house will not be able to help you plan for eternity. But Jesus can and you need to make sure of your relationship with Jesus today.
