WHAT IS IN THERE ANYWAY?

August 8, 2018

WHAT IS IN THERE ANYWAY? Sometimes it is hard to figure out what is inside certain containers; like closed boxes, canned goods without labels, other people’s minds and hearts, and sometimes what is even in our own hearts. My wife is having a test tomorrow so the doctors can know what is really going on in her bladder. Is everything OK or are there any problems there? What is in there anyway? And the answer we look for is that everything is OK and now go and have a nice future. Please feel free to pray regarding this exam.

King David many years ago talked with God and asked God to “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting,” (Psalm 139:23-24 NIV). David really wanted to know from God’s perspective what was really inside the humanly impossible to see container of his heart. How did David really think and feel about God and others? What kind of thoughts and actions permeated his life? Was David really following the path to eternal life? Was David willing to have God examine him and reveal to him what his life really consisted of? And was David willing to change his thoughts and life actions to conform to God’s standards?

How we may THINK we are inside the deepest reaches of our heart is not as important as what God thinks of what is really there. We may fool ourselves, make false assumptions, and come up with a misdiagnosis and be traveling down the wrong path of life. Do we have the courage and sensitivity of David so that we are willing to come before God’s presence and ask Him to search us and reveal to us what is really in our innermost being? Do we have the courage to adjust to what God reveals to us after that time of examination?  I think too often we spend way too much time talking to God and asking for things from God when we ought to be listening to God as He examines our inner most being and through the Holy Spirit reveals to us how we really are and how we are to adjust to that examination.
