VOICE MAIL. THIS MAILBOX IS FULL! Have you ever experienced that message when you have called someone and they didn’t answer so the call went to voicemail and then their mailbox was so full of messages you couldn’t leave a message? What does that say about the person or business? Or is their phone out of order and they don’t even know it or have they neglected to take care of it? In any case communication is silenced and as a result it is possible that important things can’t be taken care of.
Is it possible the same thing happens to us in our communication with God? I am sure God doesn’t have voicemail, He likes direct communication, and if the line of communication with God has problems I am sure it doesn’t come from faulty equipment on God’s side of the line. God has given us a book full of messages in His written Word the Bible and His communication is continuous through the work of the Holy Spirit. But are we treating God’s messages to us like voicemail? “Just leave me a message God and I’ll get back to you, maybe, or sometime when I really need you” seems to be the mindset of many Christians.
Our generation lives in the greatest era of communication in human history. We have contact with almost anyone at any time in any part of the world. And yet I doubt how much communication our generation really has with God. How is your line of communication with God? Are you operating on voicemail with God or are the lines of communication open? God says, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (Ephesians 6:18 NIV). God is listening. Are you communicating?
