LONELY SOULS! As you might suspect I have spent been a lot of time in a hospital recently. It reminds me of times when I pastored local churches. One of the things that stand out is how many patients there are who never seem to have anyone visiting them or looking after them, i.e., a relative or friend. I wonder how some of these people receive the care they deserve. It appears to me that the old adage “the squeaky wheel gets the oil” applies often in the hospital and those who “can’t or won’t squeak “ may tend to get ignored or delayed in receiving care. Friends and family members are always important in life and certainly everyone should always cultivate those relationships. In Florida there are many people who have neither friends nor family to look out for their interest. It is sad but it is also a reminder of God’s advice to us, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up” (Ecclesiastics 4:9-10 NIV). Millie and I count ourselves blessed to have many friends, family members and ministry associates willing to assist in needs in our lives. We are thankful we are not one of the “lonely souls” around us and we ask God to help us to help these “lonely souls” where possible. I encourage you to be on the lookout for “lonely souls” where you are and be a help and encouragement to them. I think that is what Jesus would do.
