TRUE MAJESTY! “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:1, 9 NIV). How do we describe the majesty of God when we observe the heavens and the earth? As many of you, Millie and I have been afforded the opportunity to travel to many different places in this world both in the U.S. and in other countries. This travel has been by car, air, and ship and the majesty of what we have seen both on land, in the air, and on the sea and under the sea are beyond description. The land, the plants, flowers, animals, sea life, and the heavens at daytime and at night are majestic to say the least and beyond description for the most part. The one who created these things is indeed majestic and words fail me to properly describe Him in a simple way.

As a statement the words, “O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” make an emphatic statement. If we consider Psalm 8:3-4 we see a distinct difference between the creation of God’s hands and God Himself. Our name brings identification and a poor reflection of God but the name of God, representing all He is, is majestic in every way imaginable. A consideration of all God has created serves only to reveal to us how lowly we are and how majestic God is. To look at the world and universe around us in all its detail and order and realize that God is the one who has designed and crafted it so that it works in harmony to provide for all mankind makes us realize that God is truly a majestic being beyond description. And we have good reason to ask with the Psalmist, “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” (Psalm 8:4 NIV). The true majesty of God shines through in the love that answers this question (John 3:16). Praise the Lord!
