BRUISED BUT NOT DEFEATED!

June 3, 2018

BRUISED BUT NOT DEFEATED! Life is full of people who MIGHT take a dislike to us, oppose us in every way, or speak evil of us. You never know if or when that will happen. King David, “a man after God’s own heart,” seemed to have that happen to him quite a lot. I am sure that wasn’t pleasant nor would it be for us. In Psalm 7 David describes how the events might happen, his thoughts, his prayers and God’s resultant action.  In Psalm 7:17 David sums up his actions in relationship to the matter, “I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High,” (NIV).

In the middle of unpleasant situations how often do we take time to just give thanks to the Lord BECAUSE of His righteousness? Usually we are focused on the problems in our life, people or circumstances, and that is what our prayers are focused on. How often do we just stop and give thanks to God because of his righteousness? We may not know why we have the problems we have, or even how the problems will be solved, or even who or what is causing our problems. But as a Christian this one thing we know, “God is righteous, and no matter what our problems are God will solve them in a way that will work His will in our lives” (Romans 8:28).

It may seem difficult to sing praise to God in the middle of severe difficulties, especially if you have a voice like I have and have a hard time carrying a tune even with the help of a bucket. David could at least carry a tune and he did indeed praise the name of the Lord Most High, the God above everyone and everything in the universe. And David offers a good example to us. In the face of adversity, when we are under siege, when our cause looks hopeless, and problems come like raging waves on the ocean let us take time to sing praise to the Lord Most High and Most Righteous because He will bring the solutions we need and will eventually right all wrongs.
