FIRST THINGS FIRST. As a young man married with two children I received Christ as my Savior. I had a lot of questions about what this new relationship with Jesus and life was all about. As with all Christians I went from sinner to Saint in an instant through my relationship with Christ but figuring out my future steps in the Christian life raised a lot of questions. And I am thankful for a godly Pastor and a wonderful local church family that helped me to figure that out. And I am thankful for the Word of God and a wonderful wife who walked and still walks the new life with me.
A key principle that I learned early in the Christian life was this, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33 NIV). In the context of this verse I discovered that everything I needed in life for physical and spiritual resources would be found in putting Jesus first in my life in every area. Jesus’ kingdom became the focus of our family life and living. The struggles were many and along the way we had many victories and difficulties as Satan fought us all the way. But after fifty four years of walking with Jesus I can say that “seeking first his kingdom” will never disappoint you and that Jesus always keeps His Word. I encourage you to put first things first.
