THE OMNIPOTENCE OF GOD IN HUMAN EVENTS! God’s power is often shown in the course of human events. Most people have read about or heard about the biblical account of The Flood in Genesis 6-8. God brought rain for forty days; he opened the heavens and the waters in the earth and he covered the earth with water. Everything on earth died except the people and animals on the ark. God’s power destroyed everything on earth and yet saved enough to begin anew. You remember Sodom & Gomorrah in Genesis 18 & 19. God was willing to spare the cities if 10 righteous people could be found in the cities. And the cities went up in flames when God rained down burning sulfur on them. When we witness catastrophic events we are amazed. But when you consider the power of God those things are minor compared to His ultimate power.
And then there was Moses and the gods of Egypt and the man Pharoah. Remember the events in Exodus chapters 1-14? Remember how God brought the ten plagues on Egypt and how God rolled back the Red Sea and how Pharoah’s army was destroyed when the Red Sea closed on them? I don’t believe God even worked up a sweat when all this took place. God’s Omnipotence is so awesome that you can only stand back and praise Him for being such a glorious God. Oh, let’s not forget the wilderness wanderings of the nation of Israel. The almighty God provided for millions of rebellious people for 40 years as they wandered around the desert areas in disobedience to God. He provided “manna” every day, their shoes and clothing didn’t wear out, they had health care, and they had religious leaders and governmental leaders. God’s almighty power provided for them. God did not have any problem providing for the nation of Israel. It seems our governmental leaders can’t even figure out how to get to the bathroom without establishing a billion dollar bathroom agency to oversee their safety while they go to relieve themselves.
Now we have been talking about a supernatural God doing supernatural things in creating the universe…in creating human beings…and in intervening in human events. When a person takes time to seriously reflect on the universe and the earthly world we live in they must come to the conclusion there is a creator and that the creator is all-powerful. When the origin of human life is considered seriously one must conclude that the human being is way to complex to have just evolved from any of the theories set forth by the agnostics, atheists or humanists of the world. We have been placed here by a glorious all-powerful God. And God has not placed man here and then left him to his own devices. God intervenes from time to time in human affairs in such a dramatic way that mankind realizes God is still in control of world affairs. But our glorious supernatural, Omnipotent God also demonstrates His power in another realm…what most of us would really consider the supernatural. So in our next post we will reflect on God’s Omnipotence in the supernatural realm.
