THE CELEBRATION OF HOPE!

March 29, 2018

THE CELEBRATION OF HOPE! Over the last month we have been looking at the Gospel of Hope…the Good News found in Jesus Christ. In our next few posts we will be reflecting on Luke 24:1-49 which leads us to the Celebration of Hope. Three things stand out in these verses of Scripture that I hope we may grasp: Hope is based on life not death; Hope is based on reality not fantasy; and Hope is based on purpose not aimlessness. As we noted at the first of the month in our beginning of reflection on the topic of Hope, “hope is the confident expectation that good things will happen in the future because Jesus is alive and has given us the assurance that He is in charge of things.” Please take the time this week, maybe now if possible, as Easter Sunday approaches to read Luke 24:1-49. Your heart will be thrilled once again as you read these verses of Scripture.

A lot of people have lost Hope today because they are looking in the wrong places to have their problems solved. The world is awash in financial problems, marital problems, moral problems and governmental problems. These things are almost enough to cause anyone to lose Hope if we are looking to the world and the people of the world to fix our problems. Our Hope and the answer to our problems is found in the omnipotent, omniscience, omnipresent God who has overcome the world and its problems. The world has done all it can do to our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ and He has emerged victorious over the worse they had to offer and He offers us great Hope.

So this week as we look forward to a glorious Easter Sunday of the celebration of Hope in Jesus Christ let us celebrate joyously because JESUS HAS RISEN! HE IS ALIVE! This world isn’t our home. We are just passing through. And though I have a U.S. Passport I am really a citizen of heaven. How about you? Jesus said, “I am come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” And He meant here and now. “If Jesus is for us who can be against us?” And though we may endure all the common problems in this world that everyone else does our ultimate outcome is not in doubt. Cancer may ravage our bodies, tornados & fires may destroy our earthly possessions but life does not consist of a bunch of possessions nor does physical death take away our eternal victory in Christ. We will live eternally because He has victory over death. So let us celebrate this week in that Hope that has been given us in the resurrection of Jesus Christ on that first resurrection Sunday and was proclaimed by the angel at the grave of Jesus two thousand years ago, “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said” (Matthews 28:6 NIV).
